Chapter Twenty-Two

Nessa was already falling in love with the Shifter realm and she’d only just arrived.

Taking a deep breath of fresh air, nothing but the scent of nature surrounded her. All she could see was trees and mountains. Not a single high rise building in sight. It was much like the Highlands of Scotland where the entrance to the portal was located.

If they hadn’t shown her the way, Nessa would never have thought to look in the cave for a portal to a different realm.

She couldn’t help wondering how many other realms there were that she didn’t know about… that Humans didn’t know about. Surely if there was one, then there must be more.

“So, what do you think of the Shifter realm?” Anya asked when they were finally alone.

“It’s stunning here,” Nessa said. “I can see why you like it so much, and your house… wow… it’s beautiful.”

“Connor built it for me,” Anya said proudly. “Well, technically he built it before we met, but he built it for his mate…”

“Which turned out to be you,” Nessa finished for her.

“Yes,” she said, smiling fondly. “So he did it for me.”

“You’re very lucky to find someone who dotes on you like Connor does,” Nessa said.

“You’ll find a male that’s the same with you,” Anya said.

“Yeah, maybe one day in the distant future,” Nessa said, not really believing that she would.

“Maybe sooner than you think,” Anya said.

There was a gleam in Anya’s eye as she spoke, as if she knew something about Nessa’s love life that she didn’t.

At least she doesn’t know about the perverted dream you had about Kellen last night, Nessa told herself. That definitely would have made the trip here more awkward.

As it was, Nessa had a hard time not imagining the dream while sat in the back of the car. Over and over the imagines played out in her mind, at the most inopportune times as well.

“I’ll give you a tour of the house when we’ve finished at Rush’s,” Anya said, breaking into Nessa’s thoughts.

“Yes, please,” Nessa said. “I would love to see what the inside is like.”

“I can promise, you won’t be disappointed,” Anya said.

It dawned on Nessa then, that she didn’t know where she was meant to be staying tonight. Did they even have hotels or B&B’s in the Shifter realm? She hoped so otherwise she didn’t know what she was going to do.

As much as she liked Anya, she didn’t want to ask if she could camp out in their spare room if they have one. She definitely didn’t want to stay at Aidan’s with him and his parents.

And Kellen? After that dream, even if he didn’t have his sister living with him, she wouldn’t feel comfortable staying with him. What if she had another dream like last night? She would be mortified if she made noises in her sleep because of a dream and Kellen or his sister overheard her.

It would be just her luck that they would think she was having a nightmare and come rushing to wake her.
